The BHEST Program ***BHEST PROGRAM IS NOW ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS*** The Blue Hills Employment and Skills Training (BHEST) is a comprehensive youth development program designed to work with older youth between the ages of 17-21 years old. This program would introduce the youth to the “8 Career Competencies” and help them to master these skills. The goal of the BHEST program is to provide occupational skills training in the Allied Health field. A key factor in the success of the program stems from the mentoring and coaching provided by the BHEST staff members and all staff and volunteers at Blue Hills Civic Association. EXPECTED OUTCOMES The expected outcomes for youth who participate in the BHEST program are as follows: To earn a national recognized certificate or degree Enhance their basic skills, and job placement. Earn a degree in Allied Health, Green Technology, or Advanced Manufacturing from Capital Community College. TARGET COMPETENCIES In the BHEST program, youth receive critical training in the areas of: Customer Service Time management Test-taking Studying Problem Solving Budgeting Once the youth has been determined WIA Eligible they are assigned to a Success Coach. The Success Coach then works with the student from the beginning of their journey until their graduation. Workforce Investment Act Youth Program is funded through the U. S. The BHCA employed over 400 students in this year's Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program. Ninety (90) students are in the Tier 1 Program. Tier 1 is composed of incoming high school Freshman and/or students who do not have any work experience. The objective of this Tier is to introduce students to the "world of work" while incorporating a learning project. This summer, the students planned a Walk-A-Thon to raise funds for three organizations: The American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, and the Blue Hills Civic Association. The students worked in committees to: plan events that would take place during the walk-a-thon, promote this project and solicit donations such as food and water. The Walk-A-Thon was held on August 8th at the Weaver High School track field. At the most recent count, the student had raised approximately $900.00. The AccessTV.org Network is Funded by J. We boast an outreach arm that facilitates the process of bringing folks together to address common issues for the common good. BHCA is the oldest CBO in Hartford. For over 25-years, we have effectively engaged youth across this city in recreation activities, social skills development and job training. Housing Programs Our Housing Program increases homeownership, prevents homelessness and sustains housing stock for low and moderate income residents. Employment Programs Our Employment Programs offer comprehensive employment services to a diverse population of youth and adult residents. The programs are designed to connect more residents to local employers and assist individuals to ensure their readiness for employment opportunities. Youth Programs Our Youth Programs offer leadership development, employment and recreational activities through employment training, athletic teams and neighborhood youth organizing. Outreach Services Outreach Services works to inform and empower residents with regards to issues and programs affecting their quality of life and neighborhood stability. Where We Are Going Growing beyond our borders! BHCA has provided enrichment programs and services to the Blue Hills residents with pride! The Blue Hills Civic Association (BHCA) has operated a Tier 1, 2 and 3 Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program (SYELP) for over 20 years. This six-week, in-school employment and training program offers students, ages 14 to 19, opportunities to earn money for their participation. In 2015, the BHCA served approximately 500 participants.

Profiles of Success is a series that focus on the accomplishments of the students of the BHCA who have been engaged with our programs throughout high school and college. This series gives a snap shot of how they were positively impacted by our services and where they now are professionally.

This is an extraordinary TV Program that comes as a result of the Blue Hill Civic Association's Slight Edge Youth Program. The Slight Edge program prepares young people for the real world of work. The cooking show is the end result of 8 weeks of study and hands on work/training that includes; but not limited, to resume writing, research into chosen fields of endeavor, and some very serious team building.
